We are in 2020 and while I do not recommend changing the entire wardrobe and helping to make the sustainable fashion, less sustainable, we need to know what is the color of the year to see what we choose from our wardrobe or what items to add. Nevertheless, I am sure this year’s color is already in your wardrobe.
Good months have passed since we learned what is the Pantone color of the year 2020. Pantone has done this for twenty years now and it influences the trends in all sorts of industries, including the clothing one. However, what about those that find this color too hard to accessorize or that believe their skin tone does not really fit with the color of the year? The Classic Blue color is what I am talking about.
It is classic so I will tell you a secret: anything that is classic – like this “classic blue” color fits everyone. This applies to anything in your life and not only your clothes, but the style, the haircut, the life you live. Anyhow, let us focus on the classic blue color of the year.
We live in a world when there is no gender label to a color. There is no longer such thing as this is a girly color or this is a boyish color. The equality tries to diminish the gender gap that helped at this, as well. When it comes to colors, it is not about the gender of the person wearing it, but what that color speaks to that person. It is important to feel yourself in any color you may be wearing.
Clothing is not the only part of an outfit that can be in classic blue. A lot of accessories and shoes come in this color. This gives you possibility to play with it and add it where you want – clothing, accessories, nails, shoes.
I like it best when I combine classic blue with neutrals. I believe is the best combination and besides, no matter the dressing style, it is just an elegant combination of colors. Beige, cream and even ivory can be a great option for the classic blue.
Why wear the Classic Blue?
Pantone explains: “ Non-aggressive and easily relatable, the trusted PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue lends itself to relaxed interaction.” “Classic Blue encourages us to look beyond the obvious to expand our thinking; challenging us to think more deeply, increase our perspective and open the flow of communication.” (Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute)
This is an easy to wear color and you can combine it with almost anything. It will make you stand out among the crowd and give you that confidence we all need sometimes.
As a good ending, if you still need to be convinced of the meaning of the classic blue, the Executive Director the Pantone Color Institute puts it best: “ Fashion is often an indicator of what is happening in the world and around us. From a colorist standpoint and from a designer standpoint, the pervasiveness of blues are very calming blues and not over-the-top ones. It is more about let’s balance things out. We want to make a statement with the hot colors leading the pack. But at the same time, we understand we need those moments of calm to offset all the turmoil that is happening in the world around us.”
Whether you are still in doubt check the pieces that I selected below to see if you like anything. As you can see it can be used both to a formal event as well as to something casual. To a formal event you must be careful not to overdo with this color as it tends to pop out quite easily. Choosing the right fabric is essential.
