In the last year I found the perfect shoes for my child, husband and me – Giesswein.

A family business that was born in Austria, is now currently run by the third generation in a row.  

More than just using natural product, what makes Giesswein so special is their commitment to sustainability while keeping the highest quality of merino wool garments and shoes in Europe. 

They try to make the most of their resoources by using them at their highest capacity, they produce locally in Austria thus the transportation is reduced, they work with local small farms that hold the mulesing – free certificate. 

Good to know

There are actual very few differenves between the shoes Giesswein offers for women and those that it offers for men. The design is the same. What actually differs are the colors. The same type of shoe has some common colors for men and women but also adds some other that the other gender does not have. 

The price is medium to high and it is understandable. The process of making the wool takes longer and requires more resources than that of the most of the fabrics.

Giesswein Merino Wool Runners

These were the first merinos shoes I chose and I believe I made the right choice. Having begun with the merino wool runners I immediately felt the comfort that merino wool brings to your feet. 

While they do look kind of thick they most definetly are not overheating and offer the perfect warmth. To mention beforehand that I am a person that has very cold feet ( literally I mean) may it be summer or winter, so finding the right shoes for me is not easy. 

What do I feel when wearing merino runners?

– I feel them as light as a shoe can be,

– My skin actually breathes through the fabric.

However

– I still haven’t tried wearing them in summer as am a little bit reluctant, despite of the fact that they say that they are temperature – regulating 

– While they are designed to be worn barefoot as well, haven’t done this yet either, but will do and come back with the review. I am curious if I will feel my feet as warm in cold days as I do with socks.

Giesswein Merino Wool Knit

I first bought my husband a pair of Merino Wool Knit and saw that they looked gorgeous and seemed more elegant than the Merino Wool Runners, so I wanted to try them as well.

I thought being knitted would feel different on the feet and they actually do.

I like them as

– Merino Wool Knit shoes offer me that comfort even in hot summer days,

– they are perfect for people who want wider shoes.

However

– the size differs than the Merino Wool Runners and while a smaller one can be too small the same Merino Wool Runner size can run too big, so for me I feel them larger fit,

– the sole does not have the same design as the Merino Runner has and while the other may tend to bring your foot slightly to the front, on this one, basically your foot will be straighter. So the comfort level differs – for example I prefer as far as the sole concerns the Merino Wool Runner.

Giesswein Merino Wool Sneakers 

Of course in search for the same brand but more summerish shoes I saw the Merino Wool Sneakers. And this is when I remembered why I love Giesswein again.

More than the fact that they are gorgeous, they are very comfortable. Again the sole is completly different than the two above, but it’s promise of lightweight and comfort is even better.

Why I absolutely love them

– they dress the foot perfectly,

– they are actually still made of some kind of merino wool knit, while having a sneaker design,

– I wore them barefoot and couldn’t even feel that I had shoes on.

However, just as I cannot see Merino Runners worn during hot summer days, I cannot see these Merino Wool Sneakers worn during autumn or rainy days. 

Giesswein Merino Wool Runners for Kids

The Merino Wool Runners for kids didn’t just conquer me but our boy as well. When he had his first pair, he wanted to wear only those shoes – his Merino Wool Runners. 

And I can relate to that, as the kids model is the same as the Merino Wool Runners for Men and Women and it is really comfortable. 

I even gave him the shoes without any sock and he did not even notice. This is because they are  lightweight, warm, flexible, comfortable and colorful. The color palette Giesswein proposes for children is very beautiful.

If you may ask, of course he has the shoes for this season as well. 

Again, what I did not try is wearing them in summer days, maybe they would be suitable for mountain climbing or something like that, but in the city, I get stuck in believing they are too thick. 

Probably we will try them in summer days as well and when we do, I will come back with a review. 

Giesswein Merino Wool Slippers for Kids

Merinos Wool Slippers for kids are the perfect combination of warm, relaxed and breatheable feet. Since he was little, we chose merino wool slippers around the house – again during autumn – winter season, and after he started kindergarten we chose them as indoor slippers. 

They are very flexible, non slippery, light, smooth and they come in beautiful strong colors. 

List with what I would like to try more from Giesswein

There are other shoes models both from merino wool, as well as from other natural fabrics, available. 

But, from the products I did not try from Giesswein there are some I would like to try and are not in the shoes category. 

I would like to try the Sina Merino Wool Sports jacket and Stella vest. I find them stylish, modern and yet ultra light and great for wearing in cold weather, offering the comfort that only merino wool can provide.

Conclusion

If I were to create a top with the Merino Wool shoes offered by Giesswein and tried by me, I would definetly put Merino Wool Sneakers on top, then there would be the Merino Wool Runners and then the Merino Wool Knit.

Their offer is larger and they have more options than these three, but only a few of them caught my attention. And this is basically something subjective.

What I am truly convinced of, is that any model of these Giesswein shoes you choose, they do what they promise. So whenever you want to choose wise, to have a go – to shoe for all occasion just check what Giesswein has to offer. More than just contributing to sustainability, you will get a quality, breathable, odor – free, lightweight, temperature regulating and soft pair of shoes.
