Bold colours for this year

We begin the year in a colourful note and this is just because the bold colour combinations are back.

And not because of me who I absolutely love bold colour.

Prints are almost gone and back to basics with fabrics that make a statement through colour, not through prints. Do you have this in your wardrobe? If not, they are a must.

They can make any dull day a happy day.

They can add a great vibe to your personality.

You cannot go wrong with whatever bold colour you choose.

Back in time

Moreover, people changed their perception of colour and clothing. Many of us see them as a “healing modality” according to Dr Dawnn Karen, a psychologist. The first time I remember the bold colour combinations were in was in 2011, a time when people were trying to heal from the 2008 recession. While these were mainly seen suitable for people in their twenties, fashion giants easily adopted them for all ages.

In 2011 Prabal Gurung chose a colour combination that is similar to the Miu Miu 2021 collection.

Christopher Kane in 2011 and Lutz Kuelle in 2021 uses colour combinations the same way.

Thankoon, 2012 used hot pink similar to how Bottega Veneta used in their Spring/ Summer 2021 collection.

2021 main colours

Bottega Veneta, Brandon Maxwell is proof for this. In their Spring/Summer 2021 collection, they use colour combinations to spice up your life and mood.

The colours used in the Spring/Summer 2021 collections are perfect to brighten up our days. The marigold yellow is one of them.

The sunny colour is not just a friendly hue that brightens up the future, but as well is on top of designers preferences. It goes well with warm colours. Designers like Richard Malone, Alberta Ferretti and Miu Miu are some of the few that adopted this into their collections.

Though more of autumn colour, the pumpkin orange comes in strong this season. As we tend to get more and more inspired by nature, this is the perfect colour to choose. It can add an elegant vibe to any outfit. Roksanda, The Row or Dior are just a few of the designers that opted for it. Moreover, living in a world that intends to be more and more sustainable, choosing an all-season colour for the clothes, is a great choice. According to Dr. Karen orange is the colour of liveliness.

The beautiful fiery cherry red colour that was often used in the Autumn/Winter 2019 collection, comes back and makes a statement on the runways. It is the go-to option when creating colour-blocking outfits and it is what you need for a romantic spring. Designers like Sacai, Chanel and Rick Owens chose it on their Spring/Summer 2021 collections.

A feminine colour is known to be the hot pink one. This is one of the most prominent colour trends for this season. Need a boost? This colour is here to help you get that energy and confidence back. Isabel Marant, Rick Owens, Valentino are all in line with using this colour for their Spring/Summer 2021 collections.

For the people that do not like to express so much through vibrant colours, there are some other options.

The sky blue colour, another colour that is inspired by nature comes to remind us of a cloudless summer sky. Some of the designers that chose it are Fendi, Loewe, Rokh.

The pastels did not fade away from this year’s collections as mint green is here to stay. The neon colours combo adding a shade of pastel is welcomed every time. It can come in different shades – mint, aquamarine, avocado, pistachio and whatever the shade, it is just another colour inspired by nature. The soothing colour is used by Armani, Max Mara, Tibi and many more. No matter the shade, green brings growth, focus and ambition into your life. “In other words, this is the color that will get things done.”

The yellowish colour of buttercream comes in just right to complete the light shades of this spring. It is a neutral colour that goes great used in a monochrome outfit or in a bold combination. Lanvin, Simone Rocha and Jacquemus chose it to highlight some of their classic items.

You can always choose to be bold no matter the circumstances. And if you need to tame that bold colour a little bit, add a soft touch. Do you have too many neutral tones in our wardrobe? Adding a bold colour will update them so keep what you have and use and add just a bit of colour.

Hope you found some useful tips on what to choose while shopping for clothing. It is most likely the colour you choose to wear will contribute to your mood.
