The heavenly divine looks on the Met Gala red carpet

On May 7, 2018, in New York at the Met Museum the most important event of the annual fashion calendar took place – the Met Gala.

This year the dress code was inspired by the Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination theme. This theme and the exposition the theme comes along with; explores the dialogue and the connection between Catholicism and fashion. The exposition is opened starting today May 10, 2018.

On the invitation regarding the dress code it was added “Sunday Best” maybe to temper those that had a wild imagination and those that use to appear with little clothes on the red carpet. This theme does not mean too much flesh, out of the contrary as we will be able to see.

While we expected a big night, this was the most beautiful and successful Met Gala ever. Everything was more sumptuous than we could have imagined; thus proving that fashion knows no limits. As the theme itself states, you can imagine there were lot of religious imagery, many headpieces and a lot of crosses. What you did not imagine was the use of colors in such an original way – some were really attentive to the Vatican colors and chose an exact Vatican yellow for their dresses, some the dark red. However let’s see the most beautiful gowns that caught our eyes.

What did celebrities wear at the Met gala?

Let us start with the co-chairs.

Anna Wintour  remained faithful to the theme and came dressed as “Cardinal Chanel”. The US Vogue’s editor-in-chief and co-chair of the Met Gala stunned in a Chanel dress accessorized with a diamond rosary. The cream gown and the cut out neck gave her that Angelique figure we were all expecting she will have.

Donatella Versace wearing of course a Versace creation that looked flawless on her. She showed a little bit of skin with that mini dress she was wearing but had a glamorous long dress wrapped around her waist. The embroidered mini dress was a work of art and fitted her perfectly.

Rihanna and with this we have said it all. Along the years she has used us to being one of the red carpet icons at the Met gala and this year she did not disappoint either. She opted for the papal style with the custom designed Maison Margiela dress. She absolutely left us speechless, looking fresh and interesting in her pope style outfit. Again short in the front and long at the back.

Amal Clooney, the beautiful wife of George Clooney opted to wear a young British designer – Richard Quinn. Though not so heavenly she aced it and looked perfect as always.

Moving on, we can admire the beautiful Jennifer Lopez. She left us admire her dramatic train and beautifully embellished dress. A very pronounced crucifix was on her Balmain dress, a perfect thigh revealing slit and perfect hair. She is sure to go down in Met gala history masterpiece. This is my favorite Met gala look 😊

Gigi Hadid is another great view of the Met Gala. She wore a gold and blue stain glass dress  that had the effect of like just being painted on her body. With this Donatella Versace gown she was the Belle of the ball.

Who is better to adapt the religious iconography than the well known Madonna? Arriving with Jean Paul Gaultier, she looked gorgeous on the red carpet adopting this religious theme.

Rita Ora is another attendee that adopted the religious theme. While her sweeping Prada lace gown was black she accessorized it with black sparkling gloves, black floral headpiece and a small yellow little bag.

Katy Perry made a stunning appearance with her angel wings. Literally they were giant and caught all the attention once she went on the red carpet. This was not a last minute decision for sure, as hundreds of hours took to make those giant angel wings. Gold all over, the Versace mini dressed fitted her perfectly. It was paired with a thigh-high boots.

At least 600 hours to make this dress and she came to the Met with an actual bus for the dress to fit in.  She accessorized with over $2 million worth of Lorraine Schwartz jewelry. This is the most royalish of her appearance at the Met ever.

Right on the theme, Selena Gomez goes dripping in diamonds wearing Coach. Her dress had her favourite Bible quote embroidered on it and she took the inspiration for the dress from Queen Esther in the Bible.  She looked angelic.

Kate Bosworth as always was stunning in a Oscar de la Renta dress. She made it big all the way. With her gold dress she blended unto the background. The gothic romantic look with that wonderful veil on her head, makes it a look worth coming back to.

All angelic like was also Winnie Harlow, who turned to Tommy Hilfiger as well for her strapless dress. She added an interesting headpiece to her look made of flowers, pearls, lace and star-studded spikes. She always stays true to herself and this is what we like about her.
